Armory Square
Historic Armory Square is downtown's premier restaurant and specialty retail district. Visitors can find clothing and accessories, jewelry, original art, a chocolate factory, bakeries, and other specialty retail. Located in a 19th century warehouse district, Armory Square is one of New York State's brightest examples of urban renaissance.
Hanover Square
Hanover Square, located on the northern end of downtown next to Clinton Square, offers restaurants, services, and retail shops. Hanover Square is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features some of the oldest buildings in downtown Syracuse dating back to the days of the Erie Canal. At the center of the Square is a plaza and fountain where lunchtime entertainment is featured in the summer months.
Convention District
The convention district is located on the southern edge of downtown, extending from Columbus Circle on the north, to East Adams Street on the South. Columbus Circle is surrounded by some of the most beautiful architecture downtown. Within the convention district, visitors can find the Everson Museum of Art and the County Oncenter Complex, one of the most flexible, versatile facilities in the Northeast. Oncenter comprises the Onondaga County Convention Center, the Onondaga County War Memorial Auditorium, and the John H. Mulroy Civic Center Theaters. The complex, which is served by an attached 1,000-car parking garage, can serve as a convention center, sports arena, meeting place, banquet facility, ice rink, concert hall, showroom, and theater.
East Side District
The East side district houses a mix of office buildings, retailers, and service providers. Fayette Firefighters' Memorial Park is located in the center of this district and is one of downtown's most beautiful parks. The mature trees, fountain, monument to fallen fire fighters, and benches make this area a popular spot for outdoor lunches and relaxation.
Heart of Downtown
Salina Street is downtown Syracuse's traditional main street and is home to an eclectic mix of retailers and restaurants. The 300 block of South Salina Street is a primary pedestrian corridor with a multitude of apparel, accessory stores and drug stores, discount retailers and eateries. The historic Landmark Theatre is located on this block of South Salina Street.
Power District
The Power District, located in the upper westside, is home to a mix of commercial and service businesses, as well as restaurants, including the famous Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. Anchored by two of downtown's largest private employers - the National Grid Company and the Syracuse Newspapers - the area is the western gateway to downtown.
Presidential Plaza District
The Presidential Plaza district is located on the lower east side of downtown and is comprised of residential high rise towers and medical office space. Its convenient location off of Interstate 81 proximity to the hospitals on University Hill makes it a popular home for medical students and doctors.
